Sometimes the things you work hardest on returns the least reaction and the stuff you churn out in a few minutes everybody loves. When Andrew Klaven wrote about a Brazilian “artist” who drew charcoal renderings of himself assassinating various renown* figures I decided to turn the tables. I took the drawing of him pointing a gun at Queen Elizabeth II and switched it up so it looked like HRM was about to shoot the bastard in the backside. The result? Crickets. Nothing. Nada. I guess it wasn’t our Queen Claire, so….
When Peter Robinson was out in the wilds on his annual family vacation I tried to imagine him on a new CBS show, Survivor: Berkeley, where they drop conservatives onto the Cal campus until they convert somebody or go mad.
But a few wags on the site complained that it just looked like Peter with his shirt off. What they wanted to see was the man incognito as a genuine Southern Redneck. I tried and tried and tried but they all ended up looking like Peter…
Another effort that seemed to fall flat was my first political jab on our side. It looks like we’re heading for what the professional pundits call a “wave election.” If so, it will be after the election when things get interesting. The relationship between the Tea Party and the Republican Establishment is tenuous at best. John Boehner, who graduated from Xavier University in Cincinnati but probably should have gone to Syracuse (Can you see Boehner yelling, “Go Orange!”?) is probably already envisioning himself as the next Speaker of the House. He needs to be reminded that he will be exposed on the national stage with a restless back bench. Don’t get caught with your pants down!
*When I was a kid I thought that if you were “renown” that meant you got to play in Les Brown’s Band for all the Bob Hope specials.
The Ricochet Gallery
October 13, 2010A collection of photo illustrations:
The one that started it all, Claire Berlinski and Manalos from Heaven.
Amazingly, when you Google images of Claire and filter by size, the largest choice on the web returns this. Print and Color fun from Turkey!
Claire is such a delightful target. My favorite is Her Majesty’s official portrait.
I was shocked and thrilled to find a picture of Claire and a very young Queen Elizabeth II where their faces were at an almost identical angle. It required very little blending at all, just an adjustment to compensate for the chroma levels. I am sure Ms. Berlinski will attribute this to some forgotten royal lineage or just her regal bearing… or maybe both.
Ricochet member Trace Urdan suggested that we need to have more intellectual slugfests among conservatives and liberals and one of them he suggested was Mark Steyn vs Robert Reichhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. We could promote it like Don King and put it on pay-per-view.
I was going to take the concept literally but the Google results for “Midget Boxing” were highly unsatisfactory.
Another Uncommon Knowledge inspiration was provided by resident scenarist, Kenneth, who somehow managed to call Peter Robinson a “piggy eminence” in Swedish. That led me to think that Peter could go to the source of runaway pork on his next webcast.
The last Ricochet podcast got a little out of hand like some big frat boy party and our man Peter got a little (?) frustrated at times. So I give you two movie posters, “Podcast Animal House” where James Lileks, Jonah Goldberg, Mark Steyn and the rest of the Delta Tau Chi gang place a live RINO in Dean Robinson’s office and “Twilight of the Liberals,” the heart piercing wrenching warming story of a democracy sucking vampire and her zombie president.
